Why Study the Bible?

When I was in my teens, I remember reading this introductory remark in a catechism book that addresses the issue of compulsory subjects taught in schools. Catechism and bible study took a backseat then. I believe this hasn't changed.

Whatever the world views as not compulsory, I'm glad that the church has awakened among the children of today the importance of falling back on God. The fact that all of you have allocated time every Sunday to study the bible is very promising.

Persevere in it and it will not let you down.

Thank you for writing. I really need someone to read the Bible with. My favourite book is John. It's like people could not understand Jesus. And I often feel people have lost somewhat the desire to understand how Jesus loves us. I will look forwad to this journey.
